How we weigh everything in the shop

Why our weights sometimes differ from the figure on the box, and what each weight on a product page includes.

Every weight on this site was measured on the same scale in our workshop: a bench scale that reads to one gram, checked every Monday with a 1 kg test weight.

What a weight includes

The big figure on each product page is the weight as it ships, with everything in the box: stuff sacks, stakes, guylines, spare laces, battery. The label next to it says what that means for the product, for example Per pair (EU 42) or Weight (size M).

Where a product can be carried lighter, the spec sheet lists a second figure. A tent’s minimum weight is the body, fly and poles only, without stakes or bags.

Why our figures can be higher

A maker’s published weight is often for the smallest size, or for a sample. We weigh one item from each delivery, in the size we list, and write down what the scale says. If a later delivery comes in heavier, we change the page.

Grams or ounces

The spec table on each product page gives the weight in both. Ounces are converted from the gram figure and rounded to a tenth, so they can differ by a fraction from a figure printed in ounces on a label.
