Poles do the most work going down. The foam below the cork grip lets you choke down on a steep traverse without stopping to change the length.
Pick the shorter pair if you are under 175 cm. The flick locks have a tension screw you can turn with a coin or a fingernail when they loosen; there is no tool to lose.
